Starting a BIG business in your kitchen - is all about the ingredients
How many people have you heard, started their businesses from their kitchen table? I have heard many tales of people who started their businesses from their kitchen table, but other than foodies, I have never heard of someone who started their business from playing it ingredients in their mother's kitchen on the stove.
Botani founder, Barbara Filokostas is a shy, unassuming woman with a passion for beauty products. What was thought to be the start of cooking a great feast for her Greek family, ended up being the start of a new beauty label of organic Australian beauty products. A former Naturopath, Barbara, spent years working with men, women and teenagers who wanted to know how they can have beautiful skin, feel healthier and do the best they can for their bodies.
What started as an acne remedy, has continued as an extensive range of beauty products that cover everything for day cream, face wash, salt scrub, eye creams, shower gels and more.
Unlike alot of entrepreneurs, Barbara is not the "in your face" business woman you would expect from such a successful range of products. Instead, she is naturally quite shy and gets embarrassed when people congratulate her on the success of the Botani brand.
My Sister-in-law, April Baker, used the Botani products for the first time for the past week, and is estatic that she has finally found an organic product that suits her dry skin. Bringing up 2 young boys, leaves little time for this dedicated mother to spend time on herself. Additionally, in a small town like Maryborough, the selection is very minimal.
The products moisturised her face and made it feel fresh and young again. She is totally in love with everything Botani and is now one of their biggest advocates.
Big businesses can start anywhere. They come in all shapes and sizes and from people from all types of backgrounds. Unlike many people, I don't believe you are born an entrepreneur, but you can be one just by having a great idea, a talent, or a bit of passion.
Make sure you have all your ingredients prepared before you start; a business plan, marketing strategy and a way to commercialise your product or service.
Read, read and read a little more. Watch movies that inspire you. See public speakers that get you motivated and surround yourself with people who are positive. The rest will come in no time at all.
Let's be honest, 'you can even fall into it'.
If you do start your business from your kitchen table or in your mother's kitchen, don't ever let go of your dream, for even a minute. If you look at Botani's story, you will see a remarkable start to what is now an international business.
