ESPN, You Did It Again

ESPN has developed quite a reputation, and depending on who you talk to, it could be one of two things. First, Bill Simmons of HBO does not have the kindest words for his former employer, to put it lightly. Second, the masses have long known ESPN for its comical commercials that feature star athletes and analysts alike. Recently, ESPN aired a commercial featuring David “Big Papi” Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox alongside two of his teammates. Without giving away too much, the commercial deals with his impending retirement at the culmination of this season. This isn’t the first time ESPN has used sports culture to push its name out there. These six commercials embody wit, humor, and much more along the way. Below are some short teasers for the commercials that have people rolling on the floor (literally) with laughter.

Travel- It's Good For Marketing

In the quiet city of Udaipur, India, there is a small restaurant that is highly rated on Trip Advisor...but by appearance alone it is not much of a restaurant. The small “cafe” is a home for a family- including kids and grandparents. There is one dining table right next to the kitchen. Upon entering the cafe it is easy to see the second floor landing where one can find the grandfather watching cartoons with the children or washing his face before bed.

Pokemon Go has taken the world by storm, and you have likely seen swarms of pokemon trainers walking around town or in the park with their eyes glued to their screens. Plenty of people have been praising it. Plenty of others have been bashing it. It is hard to say what effect Pokemon Go has had on people. The verdict: Regardless of whether it is a hit or miss, EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT POKEMON GO. It is bringing recluses off the couch and changing the very dynamics of handheld gaming as we know it.

All About #Vibez

When people look at you, they don’t just see you. They see your clothes, your hair, your face, and your air. You’ve probably heard the air around you called different things, some call it your presence, others your aura, but I like to think of it as your vibe, which is a little different.

Your presence is how people feel when you’re around them, and your aura is a field of energy that emanates from inside of you. Your vibe is what you send out into the universe. The most important thing about vibes is whatever you send into the world around you is what you get back. This may sound like a bunch of mumbo-jumbo, but it’s important for nearly each aspect of our everyday lives.

Marketing is instrumental to business growth. It provides the forum for sales to occur. Without it, sales people have a hard job. There have been many changes over the past 12 months and it is becoming increasingly hard for CMO's and Marketing Managers to stay abreast of changes.

Apple’s Magnificent iPhone

Just bought a new iphone? Welp, there’s probably already another one in the works. And of course as soon as it comes out we will all just have to have it. Because it is so different from the one we bought not even a year ago right. Why do we have to have something that’s brand new even if we have the exact same one at home already, it's just slightly older? It still works fine and looks pretty good. However as soon as that new one comes out we abandon it like there’s no tomorrow.

Oh Honey, You Do NOT Have The Eye…

Your third eye, it’s real.

In Buddhism, your third eye, often denoted as a small dot between the eyebrows, is a representation of your minds eye. Many followers of the religion also believe the eye to be a representation of wisdom. Some Hindu philosophers view “the eye”, as an extrasensory perception, that is, being able to see things in your daily life not plain to the naked eye. In other words, the eye allows you to look beyond what you see.

In business, as in both the Hindu and Buddhist faiths, it’s important to open up your third eye; In my line of work, we call that your Marketing Eye.

What does that mean?

Creating a Lead Magnet

We’ve all heard the expression “money is in the list,” and it’s true. So, to build the list what is your best tool? I’m a fan of the lead magnet. A lead magnet is defined as an irresistible and ethical bribe offering a specific chunk of value to a prospect in exchange for their contact information. Creating a good lead magnet is different than just creating something. It has to be relevant to what you eventually want to sell, and it has to be of value to your audience.

#MinoritiesMatter in Marketing

Have you ever picked up a magazine and counted the amount of faces in it that looked like yours? Have you ever walked by a store, peering in the windows to try and find a model larger than a size 6? Or maybe you’ve leafed through a catalog trying to find people that at least seem like you?
